Synopsis Work Day 2: Hazmat Suit, Machete and Blow Torch

On Writing: I'm trying to keep the synopsis for WCTBL? to three pages (cue eye roll.) Right. Broad strokes.
Who are my heroine and hero?
What do they want?
What/who is stopping them?
Internal and external conflicts.
Character and romantic growth/arcs.
The happily ever after.

Oh, yeah, and if I could come up with a brilliant, catchy opening to make editors/agents drool to read it, that would be great. Plus, a few lines that convey the humorous tone of my writing. (This is always the hard part while trying to be concise.)

After yesterday's work, I have 3 1/2 pages, but I haven't stood back to read what I've got. Could be a hot mess. I guess I'm going to have to read what I cobbled together before moving on today. I'll have to pull on the hazmat suit and dive in. I'll bring a machete and blow torch with me, because you never know, right? Synopsis writing: It's a dirty job.

  1. Aw yeah, I hate writing synopses! :/ I tend to have to be methodical, x happens, then y which leads to z and once it's done go back and fix what's broken. (Hopefully not all of it ;)
    Good luck!!

  2. Thanks, Rachel. I know I'm just making it worse by dragging it out.
