The Weakness of My Plan
On Writing: Ah ha. I have discovered the weak underbelly of my "add 13k to my m/s" plan. Every scene must do something. It must serve a purpose that moves the story forward, but making the book longer doesn't count as doing something. Making a book longer is not a good enough purpose for a scene. That's called filler and it's boring. It's trickier to add a new plot thread to a woven fabric. You can't just stitch it on like embroidered decoration after the fact. No, you have to unweave the fabric a little (or a lot!) and make it part of the whole cloth. Once more into the breach, dear friends...
